Welcome to Mt Airy Coffee – a unique coffee experience in a warm community space.
Among the most important attributes of a finely roasted and brewed cup of coffee, is connecting people. We find our favorite coffee at the center of conversations with intimates, or when we sit alone. A warm cup awaits us when we come in from the cold. A content smile comes across our face, and those of friends and colleagues, when we start the day with carefully prepared coffee. For every coffee story, personal connection is often associated with it, so when we at Mt. Airy Coffee opened our popup coffee shop during quarantine in 2021, centering people around enjoying the best cup we could prepare was the priority. Feeling the anxiety and loneliness of those days, our family sat and waited, comforted by coffee and each other. During the weekly popups over the next two years, we discovered among our friends and neighbors the shared desires of coffee and community. We found a permanent home for Mt. Airy Coffee in mid-2023, and opened our cafe on February 10, 2024 at Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Emlen Street in West Mt. Airy.
Our featured coffees will be from Ultimo Coffee Roasters, a premiere coffee provider in Philadelphia engaged in Direct Trade business relationships with coffee growers. This ensures the highest price possible is paid for coffee beans in purchasing arrangements created directly with growers. We have selected a variety of roasts to brew on site: earthy and fruity, nutty and chocolatey. A full drink menu will include hot and iced drip coffee to espresso-based drinks, hot and iced tea, and seasonal specials for dining in or take-away. To complement coffee and tea, scones, croissants, breads, cookies, danishes, and bars from creative local kitchens will be featured. Bagels will be on-hand for breakfast, and – along with croissants – for lunchtime sandwiches. Our aim is to be consistent in quality, flavor, and preparation: focused on the details to bring you the full character of every cup we brew, and menu item we serve.
As excited as we are to bring this fresh menu to neighbors, friends, workers, and visitors to Mt. Airy, we are also thrilled to offer it in the fine space at 7101 Emlen Street. The full-length windows on two sides gives the interior seating a natural feel. Bar-height singles, two-seater tables, and family style benches make the space accessible for individuals or groups of guests. Our love for Mt Airy’s trees and gardens is reflected in a relaxed and accessible space where you can enjoy coffee with friends and neighbors, both old and new.
The innumerable people who have supported our endeavour from the first popup to the shop launch have been incredible – thank you! We are neighborhood people with the intention to offer the best coffee experience possible from the time you walk in the door until the next time you visit. Hours of operation are 7:00AM-3:00PM Monday-Saturday, and 8:00AM-3:00PM Sunday. Please continue to our website, sign up on the email list, and follow us on socials for regular updates. Are you interested in exploring a path in the coffee industry? Mt Airy Coffee has Barista positions available!
The Barista creates the initial impression for each arriving guest. It is a crucial position that informs and serves guests, as well as works with other staff in the efficient preparation of menu items. The Barista is responsible for 1) beverage and food service; 2) the orderliness, organization, and supply of goods at the bar; 3) delivery of Mt Airy Coffee’s Customer Service model; and, 4) adhering to the state and local food safety and health guidelines. Individuals fulfilling this role have a strong interest to grow in the coffee industry, and a desire to support the launch and advancement of a new coffee business in West Mt Airy. Experience in the food service industry is a plus (but not required), as is a pleasant outlook, a collaborative approach to the work place, the patience and fortitude to work hard, and a sense of creativity and humor.
